The WF Associates short workshops consist of sessions that are provided as either introductions to topics or as update refreshers for practicing managers.  The workshops are researched from academic sources and delivered according to an organisation need, in a timeframe ranging from a half day to two days. Workshops can therefore be tailored for the induction of new staff or for the reframing of concepts for seasoned veterans. Workshops consist of team exercises with definite learning outcomes which develop concepts that encourage team building and develop motivation. The value of the workshops are that they provide a fast-track overview of important management topics.

Workshop Philosophy

In every organisation there are common topics or areas of knowledge and information that staff need to be familiar with. The workshops have been developed over time to provide quick straight forward means of providing that knowledge and information.  Workshops are structured in a highly flexible way that allows for tailoring to an organisation requirements.

Tailoring Workshops

All organisation have strategies and goals that are targeted at achieving their mission and fulfilling their vision.  However often there is a disconnect between the vision as seen by the executive and the one seen by the people performing the work.  Translating the strategies into something that can be appreciated by everyone is not a simple task and many organisation fail to achieve their potential as a consequence.  WF Associates will assist you to incorporate your vision, mission, strategies and goals as an integral part of the workshop so that they are packaged around your unique organisational needs.

Workshop Packaging

The workshops have been structured to fit round a common theme.  For example the theme related to the organisational management of knowledge and technology comprises of:

  • Data Mining
  • Information Systems
  • Knowledge Management
  • Office Automation, and
  • Networking & Communications

Each of these topics being considered an essential part of the overall provision and maintenance of the infrastructure required to support knowledge and organisational development. Therefore you can take each workshop and tailor it to your organisation or departmental needs by including your own information, office automation and communication structure.  As a consequence your staff gain a very comprehensive understanding of how you approach essential operational needs in your organisation.

Delivery Methods

Every organisation is unique.  Therefore the workshop material and the learning approach we provide is highly flexible and can be tailored for your unique organisational needs. The most important requirement is for you to know that your outcomes are being met from the training process.  For some organisation a fast track accelerated learning method works well.  For others a blended learning approach is more appropriate.  WF Associates will always work with you to according to our ethical standards to find the best approach for your unique requirements.

Costs

Workshops are a highly cost effective way of meeting your staff development needs.  In many cases if you choose a WF Associates delivery only mode then the cost to you consists of time and materials for our contribution.  However, the most effective form of workshop delivery is to tailor the workshop for your unique business needs.  In most organisation the most important need is frequently related to business performance improvement.  Consequentially, WF Associates will help you by providing a corporate performance improvement package uniquely tailored for your requirements. In this case we will work on a fixed fee basis which is consistent with our published ethical standards.

Workshops and Courses

The focus of the workshop is on a short delivery of concepts, whereas the courses enable a much deeper and longer term learning process.  Nevertheless, there is frequently an overlap of material between the courses and the workshops.  This is seen as a positive benefit and students participating in a workshop (known to them as a Supplemental Workshop) can incorporate material from the workshop into their course.  In fact student are encouraged to actively participate in Supplemental Workshops as a means of enriching their learning experience.  In the same way participants of a workshop who are not students can undertake assessment and later bring their assessment results into the course through the operation of the recognition of current competency (RCC) and recognition of prior learning (RPL) process.

Competencies

The workshop competencies have been selected and utilized primarily as a means of providing a structured framework for the workshop topic.  The main aim of the workshop is to explore the topic and so there are other aspects to workshops that means that a broad view of the topic is taken rather than a specific one that purely focuses on measuring a students competency.  Formal assessment is not a conventional part of the workshop but forms an optional component.

Assessment

Workshops are designed with an optional assessment built into them, and WF Associates always encourages participants to try to undertake the assessment.  We echo the words of Samuel Smiles (1812-1904) the Scottish author and social reformer who said "we learn from failure much more than from success; we often discover what we will do by finding out what we will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery." We believe that the learning process is a discovery process and best achieved through testing oneself and experimenting with a concept.  The WF Associates self-assessment process allows participants to compare their understanding against others. Whether your staff are undertaking a course or just participating in a workshop for your internal purposes the self-assessment is the best way to help them discover the meaning of the workshop lessons.  Students who are undertaking courses can also gain recognition of competency by participating in the self-assessment process, thus accelerating their pathway to completion of their course.
