A comprehensive understanding of business management is a broad competency that is expected in every manager today.  The WF Associates course structure enables the development of a reflective understanding of management through the application of skills in decision making, organizing, controlling and leadership.  The course material caters for the supervisor entering into management up to experienced managers looking for ways of enriching and consolidating their existing skills.

 

The Advanced Diploma of Business Management (BSB6021) focuses on developing contemporary business and management skills that can be applied to any private or public sector organisation. Individuals gain skills that enable them to achieve goals, deliver outcomes and improve their organisation’s bottom line through topics such as organisational behaviour, strategic planning, change management practices, and contemporary financial and accounting techniques.

It permits those students who wish to concentrate their studies in business to obtain a sound introduction to management. The course addresses the principal decisions confronting the manager of an organisation, namely the strategic and business planning, optimisation of business operations, leadership and customer focus for profit, and adding value to the organisation.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course students are expected to:

  • Demonstrate their ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and strategic direction
  • Demonstrate their ability to manage business operations, review and develop business plans, that manage a customer focus
  • Demonstrate their ability to provide leadership across the organisation
  • Demonstrate how to manage knowledge and information
  • Demonstrate the practical application of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate how to manage risk without compromising environmental management systems

Student Attributes

Students are expected to have an existing foundation of attributes and be prepared to develop their attributes through their achievements made during the course.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this program. However, it is recommended that participants have 5 years work experience and it is recommended that students have 2 years practical management experience and an understanding of issues in large organisations.

Career Opportunities

General Manager, Program Manager, Senior Executive. Completion of the Advanced Diploma of Business Management can provide entry requirements to University study Post-graduate Business Management.

Course Duration

The time you should allocate to the course is between 250 and 300 hours.  This is equivalent to approximately 6 months of 10 hours study per week.  The course can be accelerated particularly when clustered with other courses, such as the Diploma of Project Management.

Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

With the Advanced Diploma of Business Management students are able to receive credit for their knowledge and skills through recognition of prior learning (RPL) upon completion of the RPL process, or current competence (RCC). This process is undertaken once a student has been offered and accepted a place in the program.

Cost

The cost of the course varies according to the institution where you will be studying, but typically is between AUD $2,500 to AUD $3,500.

This unit covers the manager's involvement in the establishment of the strategic direction of the organisation, to both sustain competitive advantage and enhance global competitiveness. It requires analysis and interpretation of relevant markets, capability assessment of the organisation and its existing and potential competitors and allies.

This unit covers the second stage of the strategic planning process. It involves confirmation of strategic direction, the development of detailed objectives and strategies, and the creation of measures and criteria to evaluate progress towards those objectives.

Review and develop business plans

This unit covers those areas of business planning and system review undertaken by an operational manager and incorporates the development of various tactical and operational plans incorporating risk management plans.

Manage business operations

The unit covers those activities required of a manager running a business operation and links closely with the business planning units. The emphasis is on the implementation of plans and the monitoring and response to systems failures.

This unit covers the demonstration of leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence necessary to manage at a senior level. It may relate equally to leadership of a small to medium sized organisation or a significant unit of activity in a large organisation.

This unit covers planning at the tactical level, and the implementation of those plans, to ensure that business expansion and internal and external customer satisfaction levels are in keeping with business plans.

This unit covers the development and maintenance of information processing systems to support decision making and optimise the use of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation. The unit is related to almost every other unit in Strategic Management.

This unit covers sustaining an environment in which continuous improvement and learning are promoted and rewarded, including the application of relevant technology.

This unit covers the development, implementation and evaluation of a risk management plan for the organisation. It incorporates an assessment of all potential risks facing the organisation and the development of strategies and plans to mitigate all risk situations through elimination, isolation or protection. This unit provides a foundation for other Strategic Management units available at Advanced Diploma level.

This unit covers the scoping, establishment and review of the organisation's environmental management systems in regard to environmental sustainability as an integral part of business planning. All those who have a senior management responsibility would be advised to undertake this unit.
